Companies usually consider outsourcing assembly and kitting when the correction work requires significant labor, space, or time that would interfere with normal production and shipping operations. This often happens when products need to be sorted, inspected, relabeled, repackaged, rebuilt into kits, or when recall kits must be assembled and shipped to customers or technicians.

Outsourcing is most useful when companies need temporary surge capacity. Recalls and corrections often create short-term labor spikes and require a dedicated workspace for quarantined inventory and rework activities. External partners provide additional labor, assembly space, packaging capabilities, and fulfillment services so that correction work can be completed without diverting resources from production.

Many companies also outsource when traceability, documentation, and reporting are required, since experienced rework and kitting providers already have systems in place to track inventory, verify corrections, and provide reconciliation reporting.
